PortAventura gives food surplus to the Food Management Program of Reus
The council of Social Welfare, Montserrat Vilella, and the president of the PortAventura Foundation, Ramón Marsal, signed, on January 17, the collaboration agreement between the PortAventura Foundation, PortAventura World and the City Council of Reus in the recovery project and distribution of fresh foods.
The objective of this agreement is to establish a framework for collaboration to disseminate and expand the Responsible Food Management Program of Reus, which wants to avoid food waste.
An objective that materializes with the donations of the witness menus and food surpluses from the hotels, restaurants and the convention center
Thus, through this agreement, the City Council of Reus undertakes to make available to the PortAventura the entire logistics of the Food Management Program for the collection of surplus food in its facilities, to ensure that the product's adequate output is delivered collected, to sensitize citizens about food waste and disseminate the program.
For its part, PortAventura commits itself to sign a collaboration agreement with the Banco de Alimentos Foundation to carry out donations of surplus food, disseminate the program in its catering establishments and train its workers with the aim of raising awareness about the problem of food waste.
Responsible Food Management Program
Reus is a leading city in the field of food management with an innovative program that has a positive impact on social and environmental issues.
The implementation of this program from August of 2012 corresponds to the Department of Social Welfare of the City Council of Reus through the Local Plan of Inclusion (PLIS), with the direct involvement of the Foundation of Food Bank, the Workshop Baix Camp, the Public Health Agency of Catalonia and Caritas Interparroquial of Reus.
A program that also has, with the collaboration of various entities and public and private institutions that participate in the financing, among which the Waste Agency of the “Generalitat” of Catalonia and the “Diputació de Tarragona” stand out.
