PortAventura World and Grupo Miquel donate 4,630 litres of milk to the “Ningún niño sin bigote” [No child without a moustache] campaign
- As well as mobilising their clients and employees as part of the milk collection campaign, the Obra Social “la Caixa” called upon companies in the food and catering industry to get involved with the initiative by contributing milk to be donated to the Food Bank.
- The PortAventura Foundation coordinated the collection, which saw the participation of PortAventura World and Grupo Miquel employees. The project also benefitted from the noteworthy contributions of PortAventura performers.
- The Tarragona Food Bank distributed the milk directly to the vulnerable families they help in the area. This donation is thought to have covered the milk consumption needs of approximately 300 children during the summer season.

Currently, the food bank in the Tarragona region aids 24,547 people in the area. 4,500 of these are children between 1 and 16 years old who experience difficulties in being able to regularly access staple foodstuffs such as milk.
PortAventura World and Grupo Miquel also “put on their moustaches” for a good cause. The employees of these companies, and notably PortAventura World’s performers, were quick to get involved in the “Ningún niño sin bigote” milk collection campaign for families at risk of social exclusion. Following the internal collection in a record time of 10 days, 4,630 litres of milk were donated for this cause driven by the Obra Social “la Caixa” in support of the Food Bank.
The work of these companies was in response to the appeal made by the Obra Social “la Caixa” to companies in the food and catering sector to get involved in this movement by contributing milk, which was delivered to the Food Bank. The global campaign seeks to address the milk shortage experienced by more than 235,000 people helped by Catalonian Food Banks. 41,000 of these are children between 1 and 16 years old that could see their growth affected as a result of this deficiency.
In Tarragona alone, the food bank helps 24,547 people in the area, 4,500 of whom are children. For this reason, the 4,630 litres donated by PortAventura World and Grupo Miquel were given to the Tarragona Food Bank. In fact, the litres collected guaranteed that up to 300 children reached their recommended daily intake of milk during the summer period (approximately half a litre per day). Summer is a particularly difficult time since meal grants stop during the school holidays.
Milk is one of the most sought-after foodstuffs by social entities working to meet the needs of groups at risk of social exclusion, and a sufficient quantity is still not being collected to ensure minimum consumption for vulnerable families. Catalonian food banks distributed 4.39 million litres of milk in 2015, thus everyone’s collaboration is needed in this campaign based on fundraising to purchase this one important product.
