The PortAventura Foundation raises €87,170 at its 7th annual Charity Dinner
The full amount was donated to Down Tarragona-Reus and APPC “La Muntanyeta”, which focus on improving the quality of life of people affected by Down’s syndrome and cerebral palsy.
More than 1200 diners attended the gala dinner, making it once again the region’s largest charity event.
The seventh annual Charity Dinner organised by the PortAventura Foundation was held on 14th September. The event was a great success and brought together more than 1200 diners including individuals supporting the various causes, companies from all sectors, public entities and representatives of charities and social organisations.
The event, presented by renowned monologist Javi Sancho, managed to raise 87,170 Euros, which will go entirely to two regional organisations: Down Tarragona (Reus) is behind the project “Agafa't al 21”, a social and labour insertion initiative that promotes equal opportunities, fair treatment and non-discrimination of people with Down’s syndrome and other learning disabilities, whereas APPC "La Muntanyeta" is using the donations to assist in the construction of a new cerebral palsy centre in Bonavista (Tarragona). This year's fundraising exceeded last year’s figure (€85,302).
During the event, tribute was paid to Eloi Moreno, the first Catalan judoka with Down’s syndrome who has achieved the grade of black belt, and to the "Nàstic Genuine" team made up of children and young people with Down’s syndrome, and the most exciting moment of the night was the posthumous homage to Jaume Marí, former president of the ASPACE Cerebral Palsy Confederation and general director of APPC "La Muntanyeta" until his death a few months ago.
President of the PortAventura Foundation, Ramon Marsal, expressed that “it is our pride to organise an initiative of this type. This year we wanted to recognise the efforts and dedication of two entities that do an important job to improve the conditions of people with different types of disabilities and we are pleased with the positive response from our local community”.
