More than 2000 people lace up for the 5th PortAventura Foundation Charity Race in aid of Associació Down Tarragona

28/05/2016

In its fifth year, and under a new name, the #FUN RUN PortAventura takes in the entire park

PortAventura, 28 May 2016. - This morning runners took to the theme park streets for the 5th PortAventura Foundation Charity Run in support of the Associació Down Tarragona, where fun took precedence over competition and the runners enjoyed getting active as a family in this FUN RUN PortAventura.

The starting pistol was fired at 9 am when participants showed their support for charity by embarking upon a journey of seven kilometres, which this year for the first time ever took place entirely inside the park. The main aim of FUN RUN PortAventura was to provide a fun day out during which participants could get active to do their bit for this worthy cause, whilst enjoying the theme areas of China, Polynesia, Far West and SésamoAventura, all offering the best attractions for all ages. The route took in the impressive vertical accelerator of Ferrari Land, the new park inspired by the Italian brand of the "prancing horse", which is scheduled to open in April 2017.

The funds raised from registrations for the various race distances, one for adults and two short distances for children, have been donated to Associació Down Tarragona, a non-profit organisation whose mission is to improve the quality of life and actively promote social integration of people with Down's Syndrome and other intellectual disabilities. The Association will use these new resources to consolidate existing projects and continue its work to improve the education of children and young people with Down's Syndrome, a key area in the work of the PortAventura Foundation. On this day of integration, the park's mascot Woody was on hand to encourage youngsters to run for a good cause.
